PREPARING FOR YOUR SURVEY

A great deal of time and expense can be saved if the vessel is properly prepared in advance of the survey. The vessel should be reasonably clean and all extraneous possessions should be removed. All normally accessible compartments should be open, unlocked and not obstructed. The ships papers or title and registration should be available for inspection. The seller, the broker or other representative of the seller should operate the vessel, engine, or other equipment on the sea trial and are responsible for delivering the vessel to the yard for the haul out. 

After arranging for the survey, the buyer should make arrangement with the marina or repair facility for the haul out and pressure wash. Often, the broker will coordinate this for you. Also, the buyer must make the necessary financial arrangements with the yard. Payment is usually expected at the time of haul out. Unless otherwise determined, payment for the survey is anticipated at the time of the survey inspection.
